Gradebook Overview

Use the gradebook to enter, manage, and calculate student grades across all assessments.

Time required: Varies by class size

Prerequisites

  • Faculty or Grading role
  • Grade scale configured
  • Assessments created

Access Gradebook

Step 1: Navigate to Gradebook

  1. Go to OpenEduCat -> Grading -> Gradebook
  2. Select course and batch
  3. View gradebook grid

Step 2: Understand the Layout

Enter Grades

Individual Entry

  1. Click on cell to edit
  2. Enter score
  3. Press Tab or Enter to save
  4. Move to next cell

Bulk Entry

  1. Click Import Grades
  2. Download template
  3. Fill in spreadsheet
  4. Upload file
  5. Confirm import

Grade Calculations

Weighted Grading

Assessments weighted by category:

Simple Average

All assessments equal weight:

  • Total points earned
  • Divided by total possible
  • Convert to percentage

Points-Based

Raw point accumulation:

  • Sum all earned points
  • Compare to possible points
  • Calculate percentage

Special Actions

Excuse Student

Student exempt from assessment:

  1. Right-click cell
  2. Select Excuse
  3. Not counted in total

Drop Lowest

Configure to drop lowest scores:

  1. Go to category settings
  2. Set Drop Lowest count
  3. System excludes lowest

Curve Grades

Apply curve to assessment:

  1. Select assessment column
  2. Click Apply Curve
  3. Enter curve method
  4. Preview and confirm

Publishing Grades

Make grades visible to students:

  1. Review all entries
  2. Click Publish
  3. Confirm publication
  4. Students can view grades

Troubleshooting

GPA not calculating

Check:

  • Grade scale assigned
  • Include GPA flag set
  • Credit hours configured

Total showing incorrectly

Verify:

  • Category weights sum to 100%
  • All scores entered
  • Excused entries handled correctly

Cannot edit grade

Confirm:

  • You have edit permissions
  • Gradebook not locked
  • Assessment not finalized
