Overview

Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) provides:

  • Flexible course selection for students
  • Credit-based progression
  • Standardized grading (CGPA/SGPA)
  • Course categorization (Core/Elective)
  • Credit transfer support

Configure CBCS

Enable CBCS Module

  1. Go to OpenEduCat > Configuration > Settings
  2. Enable CBCS Module
  3. Configure:

  1. Save

Define Grade Points

  1. Go to CBCS > Configuration > Grade Points
  2. Create grade mapping:

Credit Structure

Assign Credits to Subjects

  1. Go to OpenEduCat > Courses > Subjects
  2. Open subject
  3. Set credit details:

Credit Calculation

Standard formula:

1 Credit = 1 hour lecture OR
2 hours lab/practical OR
1 hour tutorial

  • Within major discipline
  • Choose from options

  2. Create categories:

CGPA Calculation

SGPA (Semester GPA)

SGPA = Σ(Credit × Grade Point) / Σ(Credits)

Example:

SGPA = (4×8 + 4×7 + 2×10) / (4+4+2) = 80/10 = 8.0

CGPA (Cumulative GPA)

CGPA = Σ(Semester Credits × SGPA) / Σ(All Credits)

View Calculations

  1. Go to CBCS > Student CGPA
  2. Select student
  3. View:
    • Semester-wise SGPA
    • Cumulative CGPA
    • Credit summary
    • Grade distribution

Student Credit Tracking

Credit Dashboard

Students can view:

  • Credits earned
  • Credits remaining
  • Category-wise status
  • Projected graduation

Credit Requirements

  1. Go to CBCS > Program Requirements
  2. Define for each program:
    • Total credits needed
    • Category minimums
    • Elective requirements

Credit Transfer

For transfer students:

  1. Go to CBCS > Credit Transfer
  2. Add transferred courses
  3. Map to equivalent subjects
  4. Apply credits to student record
