Overview

Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) provides:

• Flexible course selection for students
• Credit-based progression
• Standardized grading (CGPA/SGPA)
• Course categorization (Core/Elective)
• Credit transfer support

Configure CBCS

Enable CBCS Module

1. Go to OpenEduCat > Configuration > Settings
2. Enable CBCS Module
3. Configure:

Setting	Description
Credit System	Semester/Annual
Max Credits/Sem	Maximum allowed
Min Credits/Sem	Minimum required
CGPA Scale	4.0 / 10.0

4. Save

Define Grade Points

1. Go to CBCS > Configuration > Grade Points
2. Create grade mapping:

Grade	Points (10)	Points (4)	Description
O	10	4.0	Outstanding
A+	9	3.7	Excellent
A	8	3.3	Very Good
B+	7	3.0	Good
B	6	2.7	Above Average
C	5	2.0	Average
P	4	1.0	Pass
F	0	0.0	Fail

Credit Structure

Assign Credits to Subjects

1. Go to OpenEduCat > Courses > Subjects
2. Open subject
3. Set credit details:

Field	Description
Credits	Credit value (1-6)
Lecture Hours	Theory hours/week
Lab Hours	Practical hours/week
Tutorial Hours	Tutorial hours/week

Credit Calculation

Standard formula:

1 Credit = 1 hour lecture OR
           2 hours lab/practical OR
           1 hour tutorial

Mandatory for all students:

• Foundation subjects

• Required credits

Elective Courses

Discipline Electives (DE)

• Within major discipline
• Choose from options

Open Electives (OE)

• From other departments
• Broaden knowledge

Skill-based (SEC)

• Skill Enhancement Courses
• Practical focus

Configure Categories

1. Go to CBCS > Course Categories
2. Create categories:

Discipline Elective	DE	20
Open Elective	OE	12
Skill Enhancement	SEC	8

CGPA Calculation

SGPA (Semester GPA)

SGPA = Σ(Credit × Grade Point) / Σ(Credits)

Example:

Subject	Credits	Grade	Points
Math	4	A	8
Physics	4	B+	7
Lab	2	O	10

SGPA = (4×8 + 4×7 + 2×10) / (4+4+2) = 80/10 = 8.0

CGPA (Cumulative GPA)

CGPA = Σ(Semester Credits × SGPA) / Σ(All Credits)

View Calculations

1. Go to CBCS > Student CGPA
2. Select student
3. View:
   • Semester-wise SGPA
   • Cumulative CGPA
   • Credit summary
   • Grade distribution

Credit Dashboard

Students can view:

• Credits earned
• Credits remaining
• Category-wise status
• Projected graduation

Credit Requirements

1. Go to CBCS > Program Requirements
2. Define for each program:
   • Total credits needed
   • Category minimums
   • Elective requirements

Credit Transfer

For transfer students:

1. Go to CBCS > Credit Transfer
2. Add transferred courses
3. Map to equivalent subjects
4. Apply credits to student record
